The reformer is up and running! After many months of construction and preparation, the time had finally come:
Our test facility in Speyer has started its first hot trial operation - with reformer, steam, biomass and synthesis gas.
π’ First result:
The bhyo. The reformer was started up, the system ran stably and we produced synthesis gas for the first time - including an impressive flame pattern in the flare. π₯
The measured hydrogen content was 30-40 % - a solid starting point for further optimization... but all the controls still need to be optimized and the system heated thoroughly.
What happened?
π Pre-commissioning of all media and safety systems completed
π Night shift operation with nitrogen & steam to determine the pressure difference curves
π Heating up to > 800 Β°C - step by step
π First biomass feed (wood pellets) via safety-oriented airlocks
π Burner ignited - synthesis gas produced, analyzed and flared
π Online gas analysis with our partners from DBFZ & TH-Bingen
π Safety coordination, risk assessment & area overlaps finalized
π Analysis container set up - ready for the operational campaigns
π οΈ Parallel was documented as always:
β
Arrival & departure description
β
Checklists for IBN & decommissioning
β
Operating instructions & hazard analyses
Of course, not everything went smoothly - but that was never the aim.
Because: We test. We Learn. We improve.
β€οΈDanke to the entire team - and to our partners in the BioH2 project (BMWK-funded) for the support! π
